Bridget & Justin // A San Francisco Wedding ft. The Castro

What strange times. Weddings have shrunk and these windows in which I get a glimpse into a group of people, a community, a family, are so different. The banter is quicker, schedule aren’t overflowing, there’s time. Time to take a breath, to settle into the moment and appreciate what is going on around you.

That’s how I remember Bridget and Justin’s little wedding up near the Castro in San Francisco. It was one of those day where fog rolls in heavy waves over the city slowly choking out the light. Things seemed slow, as if in a painting. Heavy, wet air with a chill breeze blustered about. Cars wound up and down the hill in the background. To an audience comprised of a computer holding their friends and family and a rooftop holding the same, they laughed, they cried. When they kissed a nearby hill filled with the hoops and hollering of some curious onlookers. It was a day filled with joy bookended by stressful ones that didn’t seem to matter.

Trisha & Danny // A Sacramento Wedding

This story is about a table. I’m not entirely sure where The Table came from, or how often he was used. If I had to venture a guess The Table lived most of his life in a garage, folded together neatly and stored out of the way. He would come out every now and then, someone rushing in to whisk him away and hastily throwing some cloth over him. He wasn’t pretty, very utilitarian, and though his life wasn’t active the few times he came out there was a guaranteed party.

It was mid May, not exactly hot but maybe a bit warmer than comfortable. It was here that The Table found himself being set up neatly in a little park. The park itself was large, a few sports fields, a playground and some picnic tables nestled just off a lazy street in west Sacramento. People bustled about him. A vase, water bottle, some knickknacks and a computer were shuffled around. He enjoyed holding things, feeling useful. Everyone seemed so joyful, excitement filled the air.

Trisha and Danny hadn’t planned on having their wedding this Saturday in May. A pandemic was in full swing, but in a stroke of luck their family was passing through Sacramento on the same day. In the span of a couple days they planned an impromptu celebration. It featured masks, a rather lengthy Zoom call, and a good bit of distance between families. But I’ll let the photos tell the rest.

Luke & Lucy // A Berkeley engagement session ft. Joaquin Miller Park

When I met up with Luke and Lucy in Berkeley the rain had been falling all morning. We had hopes of everything dying down but as we trudged through the forest the drops just kept getting larger. Breaks in the canopy overhead brought downpours as the trail became a stream, water ran over our boots as we were drenched. It made for some pretty dope pictures though.

Hayley & Toby // A Sonora Wedding ft. Union Hill Inn

The first time I chatted with Hayley and Toby was over google hangouts while they were living overseas. We talked for awhile. I don’t remember the wedding being brought up until the end of the conversation, it was just one of those things where you get caught up in the conversation. When the wedding finally rolled around we’d had a few more hangs (irl this time), and instead of showing up to capture a wedding as an outsider I was showing up excited for my friends to be married. Here is the story of that day from a little town deep in California, at the Union Hill Inn.

Amanda & Matt // Bay Area Engagement Session ft. Mount Tamalpais

Small raindrops pooled together on the branches of the redwoods. Gradually making their way down the trees as they picked up size and landed with a thunk on the brush covered forest floor. Damp air swirled about in clouds, floating in from the pacific.

A few pictures from an immensely foggy day atop mount tamalpais.
